When I first heard about surrender I thought oh oh this is something that will help the casinos. But it turned out to be something, that if used properly, will actually lower the house advantage = increasing your odds.
So what is "Blackjack Surrender", and what does it mean to online Blackjack? For some time Surrender has been available at some brick and mortar casinos. It is now becoming available at online casinos.

What is it? It is an option that can be used after the wagers have been placed and the cards have been dealt, but before you have taken your first hit, or taken any other option. You can take the option to surrender your hand. This option comes at a price, half your wager.

What can surrender do? When the dealer has a very good up card and you have certain dealt cards you can retain half you wager by surrendering. It is not advisable to surrender when you have 19 or 20, but more when you have 15 to 16 and the dealer has a high card showing.The basic strategy for playing Blackjack Surrender is as follows: when the dealer has a 10 or Ace showing and you have 15 you surrender your hand. Also Surrender with a hard 16 if the dealer shows 9, 10 or Ace. There is one exception to the surrender rule, which is if your 15 is made up of a 7 and an 8 you could hit. You hit your hand because when you hit a 15, you are hoping for a 5 or a 6 at the most. The combinations of 7 and 8 uses up two cards that you don't want to receive. Therefore, with a 7 and an 8 you the probability of receiving a good hit card is higher.
